Lead-up Events

In line with the theme of Thantedam Calicut mini-Marathon 2012, a set of lead-up events will be conducted over the month of February in the run-up to mini-Marathon.

1. Young Woman Achiever Award

The 'Young Woman Achiever Award 2012' aims to identify and recognize the achievements of woman students across colleges in Calicut based on their overall excellence (academic proficiency, extracurricular and contributions to the society). It stimulates them to rise despite their backgrounds and hardships, excel and outshine in their chosen fields and ultimately lead the society.

  • Word document should be named in the format  <Name_College.doc> for e.g. Sukriti_Jain_IIMK.doc

2. Poster/Bookmark making competition
  • Thematic topic such as “she is…” will be given to students
  • Entries can submitted online and pictures can be uploaded
  • The best entry will be chosen to be made as a bookmark

3. Women Self help group day

  • Stalls of select Self help groups/ women NGOs will be set up inside IIMK and at Malls
  • Their products would be sold and the stalls will be open for general public

4. "My Idea" Competition

The ‘My Idea’ competition aims to identify several social issues concerning women on which discussion will take place on the Facebook page The best solution/comment will be decided by the number of likes received and the evaluator judgment. The discussion on each issue will be open till 11:00AM 24th February after which the number of likes will be frozen, the solutions would be evaluated and one winner will be declared for each problem statement. The winner would take home attractive prizes and many other goodies on the day of the Marathon on 26th February.

Competition Guidelines

  • Visit
  • Study the problem posted on the wall, related to issues faced by women in our society.
  • Post your reply on the Wall as an independent post clearly stating your problem/topic selected and your solution for the same. And share it with your friends/community on Facebook
  • Wherever possible, please substantiate your answers with suitable examples. You are advised to restrict your answer to the problem to 300-400 words
  • The wall-post solutions with the maximum number of likes as on 11:00AM, 24th February, 2012 and best rating from our evaluator will go on to win exciting prizes on the day of the Marathon on 26th February 2012.
  • There will be one winner selected for each problem statement.
  • Profanity of any kind will lead to immediate disqualification.

5. Local language street plays by students of IIMK and nearby colleges
  • Street plays highlighting the various issues suggested by women-based NGO's can be conducted at Calicut Beach on a busy evening with due coverage in newspaper and social media.
